Collector’s choice

Weapons with effects in WoW: orbs, fire and unusual models

Separate rings around a magical core, blue blades, and a huge blazing sword give your look different personalities. Compare models and how to obtain them.

Collection:

Model, illusion, and item power — are different things

First decide which effect you need: an unusual weapon shape or additional glow. This selection focuses on models—magical cores, separate rings, energy blades, and living silhouettes. An enchantment illusion is selected separately and does not turn an ordinary staff into Aluneth.

Transmog transfers appearance, but does not promise the original’s combat abilities.Dragonwrath retains its recognizable blue center and dragon shapes, but applying its appearance does not grant the Tarecgosa transformation. Likewise, do not choose a Legion artifact solely for an old ability or whispers: appearance alone does not guarantee those properties.

Magical orbs and separate details

Aluneth stands out for its purple core and surrounding golden rings. The base appearance unlocks through the Legion mage class chain. It does not require the old Mage Tower weapon reward, but remains class-specific. Additional forms and colors have separate requirements.

Edict of Argus offers a different impression: blue tips and separated geometry resemble a weapon made of magical light. The catalog version specifies Normal Hellfire Citadel and Archimonde. Check the difficulty before starting if you want this exact color.

Xal’atath is a compact priest option: instead of a large glowing structure, it offers a recognizable Void dagger with an eye. Zhar’doom stands out primarily for its living demonic silhouette; another way to make a weapon noticeable without a huge blade.

Weapons Main visual accent Type of route
Aluneth Core and rings Base mage class chain
Taeshalach Blazing fragment of a two-handed sword Rare cosmetic loot from Aggramar
Dragonwrath Blue center and dragon shapes Long legendary quest chain
Arathar Fiery bow Ragnaros loot in Firelands

What to choose first

If you want a defined result through quests, start with an obtainable base artifact for your class. If a rare model such asTaeshalach, appeals to you, add it to your raid schedule, but do not make completion of the entire look depend on the next drop.

Shadowmourne and Dragonwrath are better treated as separate projects. They involve successive stages and raid collections; Shadowmourne’s Blood Infusion requires helpers. High level cannot replace completing the mechanic here.

Before a long route, preview the weapon on the intended character and check the allowed type. Being able to use an appearance does not mean the original item suits your current specialization. Still cards show shape and color; check moving parts in the source model. Acquisition data comes from cards verified on October 31, 2026.
